Must-Have Beauty Products for Fall 2011

Oh, fall.  It’s that time of year when we have to admit to ourselves that the sunny days are over, which means no more sun-kissed cheeks, no more glowing skin and no more tan…  But fall does bring us a new array of colors, those lovely earthy tones that will transition us to the deeper tones of winter.

Along with these traditional earthy shades, Fall 2011 also brings us jewel tones.  These tones are a reflection of the runway collections we saw last year, in colors like emerald, amethyst, topaz, and sapphire… just to name a few.  All those shades will have a wonderful companion color, namely Mr. Gold.

This fall is all about glamour, jewel tones and gold!  You’ll see this done by every makeup company, from Yves Saint Laurent to Maybelline.

Yves Saint Laurent released their Ombres 5 Lumieres palette in Midnight Garden, which includes shades like purple, light turquoise, and black.  Plus famous makeup artist Charlotte Willer worked with Maybelline to create two eye shadow palettes inspired by this color trend: Sapphire Stylist and Green with Fashion.  Both of these palettes feature Mr. Gold.

For Fall 2011, eyeliners will be more popular than ever.  Don’t be shy, try some new colors apart from the traditional black and brown… maybe emerald or gold?  (Use Revlon’s Grow Luscious Lash Liner in emerald or MAC’s Avenue, which is a charcoal black liner with a hint of gold pearl).  If you have more classic taste, go for a deep purple that is more discrete and similar to a dark brown.  MAC’s Diversion is a dark plum gel eyeliner and will work wonders.  To apply the liner, start with a thin line and, if you feel comfortable, make the line a bit thicker.

As for lipstick, keep the color subtle when pairing with heavy eye makeup.  Nude colors will go perfectly with those jewel-toned eyes. If you instead want to put the emphasis on your lips, try a ruby red lipstick like Russian Red by MAC or Red Velvet by Estée LauderMAC’s Russian Red is my favorite matte lipstick and will last all day long.

And let’s not forget about the cheeks.  You’ll want to keep using the pinky blush you used during summertime.  One great blush is Hypnotic Beauty Luminous Blush by Victoria's Secret.  This pink will give you a little bit of color to go with your fall tones.

Extra tip: Fall weather can really dry out your skin.  So my solution is to use Fix + by MAC.  I absolutely can’t live without it, even during the summer!  This product locks in the moisture in your skin, helping you avoid dehydration and lines.  This liquid is a blend of vitamins, minerals, green tea, chamomile and cucumber… all topped with a pleasant scent!  All you need to do is spray it on your face before you apply your makeup.  Or if you want your makeup to last longer, try spraying it after you apply your makeup for the day.

Closet Must-Haves "FALL"

With the incoming cool weather, you all should be wondering: Is my closet ready for fall?  Here are some must-have pieces you’ll need this season (buy or take from your mom’s closet J).

Firstly, you should have at least one sequined item in your closet for fall.  Whether it be a blouse, skirt, or dress, you’ll be able to pair this piece with a solid item (like in black or brown) and mix in some fun accessories.  Then you’ll be GOOD TO GO!

Next, there is the all-important denim shirt.  These skirts are so CUTE, I just bought one at H&M (which you’ll see in a future post).

Then, to keep you warm for this chilly season, you should have a trusty brown leather aviator jacket.  I have two of these jackets, one from the vintage market and one I bought the other day in H&M.  Brown is the PERFECT color because it goes perfectly with gold and you can wear it any hour of the day.

Oh, and let’s not forget BOOTIES!! It doesn’t matter what color or the style, you’ll need to have some booties in your closet for fall!  My navy blue booties are from ALDO and I LOVE them!

The last items are your STAPLE pieces: a black dress and blazer.  These items will solve any fashion emergency you might have.  To spice up your staples, you can also try these pieces in salmon or grey.

Hope you enjoy the picks and head out to get some fall essentials!

Almost night in the Falling Leaves

There is something very SPECIAL about fall… the leaves changes so gradually, like watching a live color palette.  Fall is definitely the prettiest season of the year.  I was so EXCITED when I went down to my garden yesterday and saw the beautiful view.  So I decided to have a little fun with the leaves!

For this shoot, I am wearing a H&M aviator jacket, Zara cardigan and bandana (my FAVORITE), ASOS leggings, and vintage rings J.  This outfit is not only BEAUTIFUL, but it’s also perfect for this cool weather.

Go outside and enjoy this AMAZING weather!
